Internal Leagues Rules and Etiquette

Here's a reminder of the rules and etiquette of playing in the leagues...

Hi everyone,

I've already had a couple of questions so far this month and as we have so many new players, here's a reminder of the rules and etiquette of playing in the leagues.

Organising your games

At Northern we do not do round-robin – you are responsible for organising all your games. Please make every effort to get in touch with your opponents and discuss a mutually agreeable date and time for your game. Emails and texts are great but nothing beats sitting in front of a computer and calling your opponent to book a court there and then. You have 5 weeks to play your games but don’t leave it until the last week.

If you know before the beginning of the league session that you are injured, have external commitments, or unlikely to be able to play your games for any other reason, please contact Anthony or myself and ask to be removed from the league. When you return we will always put you back in at the same level where you previously were. We all want to play our games so please consider your 4/5 opponents in your division and maximise the likelihood that you will be able to offer to play them giving them a reasonable window to play.

Scoring

You can use either traditional English (first to 9) or PAR (Point A Rally – first to 11) scoring. Before starting the game, agree with your opponent which system you both wish to use. If you disagree the default is English.

The match is best of 5 games and this means the first player to win 3 games. Once one player has won 3 games the match is over. If you run out of time, neither you nor your opponent are under any obligation to finish the game but you may agree to do so if you wish (i.e. book additional time or return to finish the game at a future time). Otherwise the match score stands (even if neither of you has managed to win 3 games).

Entering your scores

Logon to you Wazygoose account and enter the match score on your account home screen.

Walkovers

Please make every effort to organise your game. There are exceptional circumstances when you may request a walkover. These are:

  • Despite repeated attempts you have been unable to contact your opponent.
  • You offered to play your opponent a minimum of two matches and he/she has refused and offered no alternatives.
  • You had a match arranged and your opponent cancelled, leaving no reasonable time to re-arrange a match.

To claim a walkover, logon to your Wazygoose account and click to enter the match score and then follow the instructions to claim a walkover.

You are awarded 4 points for a walkover (as opposed to 6 if you were to win 3-0) and you do not get 2 bonus points if you have claimed any walkovers so it really is worth contacting your opponents early in the session to ensure you get your games in.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
