Michael Mattimore played his last tournament as an under 13 recently at Nottingham. Having already finished 3rd in the National championships, represented England and won 3 Silver tournaments this season, he was hoping to finish with a good performance.
He got off to a good start by beating fellow Northumbria county player Angus Forster 3-0 and then David Collins from Cleveland by the same result.
It got tougher in the quarter final where he dropped a game against Jordan Warne (Surrey) but he got back on track for the final with a 3-0 win over Elliot Ridge of Yorkshire.
In the final he played fellow England international and Number One seed, James Wyatt from Buckinghamshire.
Michael won the first game before James stormed back to win the next two and be match ball up in the fourth. Michael hung in to win that game 16-14 and then the fifth game 11-8.
Well done Michael - a tremendous effort!
Michael now moves into the under 15 age group and we wish good luck for next season.
