Six Gosforth school teams went to Nottingham last week to contest the national schools squash competition finals

Six Gosforth school teams went to Nottingham last week to contest the national schools squash competition finals. All the boys teams performed well. The keystage 3 team were unlucky not to qualify for the main quarter finals and ended up finishing 3rd in the plate event. The keystage 4 boys team , headed up by the Thompson twins Matthew and John , only lost to the eventual winners Wycliffe college and finished third. The keystage 5 boys team , who were missing there number one Andrew Shipley also lost to Wycliffe and finished in sixth position. The stars of the show were the keystage 3 and keystage 5 teams. The keystage 3 team of Zoe Shipsey , Evie Paterson , Grace Moore , Kate Naisbitt , Ava Naisbitt and Lea Mouille who stormed to the final and then had a nailbiting 3 - 2 win over St Josephs from Cambridge. It all came down to Evie Paterson who was two match balls down in her match but battled back to win the trophy. The keystage 5 team of Megan Evans , Erin Vitty, Emma Delgaty , Beth Tudor , Sophie Bedford and Aanya Hamilton beat the number 1 seeds in the first round and then had an equally close 3 - 2 win over Kenilworth from Warwickshire in the final. Erin Vitty went on at 2 - 2 and played some excellently controlled squash win the title for Gosforth Academy. Image Text
