New committee man Andy Smith has been quick to prove he’s not someone to be caught cold.
While most of the newly retired have no doubt been spending their time enjoying a lazy lockdown, red hot Andy has zoomed in on one of the club’s long standing problems - the court heaters.
You may remember that following a regular service check a couple of years ago, a rather zealous engineer expressed concerns at the ventilation process and immediately slapped warning tape all over the courtside switches - which was something of an over-reaction.
Now Andy has revealed hitherto unrealised (by some of us) technical knowledge to hunt down suitable contractors who have submitted plans to rectify the system’s shortcomings and also undertake a regular servicing agreement.
Estimates have been submitted and will now go before the finance committee for final approval - problem well on the way to a successful solution.
So well played Andy (left) for sorting out one of the less glamorous sides of life at a squash club - and for making sure the courts will be tip-top when we eventually get back to using them.
