Scrubbers Doubles

Richard Vitty - Mon 23 Sep 2013

Volunteers recently cleaned courts 1 and 2 and then played in a new doubles tournament , dubbed the scrubbers doubles

The Scrubbers Doubles Cup

28 members turned up to help clean the courts on Sunday 15th September. Courts 1 and 2 are now all but ready for the start of team matches. A big thanks to everyone who helped. 20 players stopped to play in the “ Scrubbers Doubles “ competition, which proved to be great fun. Teams played in leagues at first and then there was a play off for every team to decide finishing positions. “ Plum Heads “ ( Michelle Robertson and Lewis Wake ) narrowly avoided finishing last by beating “ 89s “ ( Dave North and Keith Linsley ) by a score of 18 - 12 and then “ Two Jays “ ( Jack Cornell and Jem Stach ) beat “ the A team “ ( Alex Storey and Anth Cummins ) to 7th place by the same score.

“ Double D “ ( Derek Collins and Steve Dobinson ) proved to be too strong for “ Beauty and the Beast “ ( Mike Paul and Tegan Younger ) to finish 5th , just behind “ Tatty Tommy “ ( Matty Hardy and Tom Cornell ) who lost a titanic struggle 13 - 14 against “ Ashour thing “ ( Alex Robertson and Dylan Younger ).

The final pitted Youth in the shape of “ Cam n Caisey “ ( Cai Younger and Cameron Hamilton ) against the experience of “ the scrubbers “ ( Gordie Robertson and Chris Hull ). Chris was steadiness personified and Gordie introduced the boys to his best friend Billy Boast and the scrubbers won comfortably 21 – 10.

A special mention to Gordie , who managed to arrive as we were clearing up from the court cleaning and then had the cheek to win the cup and the FREE BEER !!

This could become a regular event – watch this space.
