Northern’s Dunlop Junior Open has been running for over ten years and the last five events have had QS Lawson & Thompson as their headline sponsors. It is the most popular junior event in the North of England , regularly attracting over 100 junior players from around the region. The sponsorship by QS Lawson & Thompson enables the organisers to provide each entrant with an event t-shirt. The club’s link to QS Lawson & Thompson is Tim Barker , chairman of junior squash, club team player and father to Josie and Katie Barker, both of whom have won multiple Junior Open championships in the past. Josie is now away at University but Tim will be hoping that Katie can pick up another trophy in the Girl’s Under 17 event. This year’s Dunlop Northern Junior Open is being held on Saturday March 23rd and Sunday March 24th and as well as the feast of junior squash there will also be the event’s famous cake stall, with all the goodies provided by junior parents to raise money for junior development. Local sports development charity , Sport Newcastle have also agreed to support the event by helping to purchase the event trophies. It is sure to be a very successful event and we would encourage all junior members to enter and adult members to come along and spectate.
