This weekend saw the culmination of the Club Champions for 2022.
It was a gruelling schedule of matches with both Men's and Ladies Champions to be decided alongside The Master, Handicap, Doubles and Plate competition's. Many players found themselves in a number of competitions and inevitably some succumbed to injury.
Unfortunately the defending Men's Champion Andy Goldsborough couldn't make to the final this year so we were to have a new club champion. We had 2 new names in the final this year, Barry Corbyn who has been a member for a number of years and Michael Buttriss who a new member over here from Australia. After a thrilling and hard fought match Barry came out on top.
This years Ladies Championship was a repeat of the 2021 final with defending Champion Fran Moore pitting her skills against Louise Mawson. This was another hard fought match and a great advert for a ladies section that is going from strength to strength. This time Louise was victorious.
The Club Championships Plate competition was played between Gary Anderson and Luke Egglestone with Gary coming out as the winner. The Ladies was contested by Linda Walker and Charlotte Lawrenson with Charlotte being the worthy winner.
The Masters were contested in the following Over 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 with the Champions being Tim Boyling, Barry Corbyn, Andy Goldsborough and Brian Duke respectively.
Sadly the final of the Handicap competition couldn't be held as Paul Belch injured himself after the semi final however Emily McSorley also made it to the final after a hard fought competition and is crown as champion.
Finally we held an inaugural Doubles Competition which was interesting but great fun. Brian Duke and Andy Goldsborough were crowned champions after beating Simon and Louise Mawson in a humorous confusing final.
A huge thank you to Brian Duke for arranging all the competitions and to everyone who entered and made them all very successful.
