The Annual Geoff Younger competition took place on Saturday 13th April 2013. This is the third occasion that the event has taken place to commemorate Geoff’s life, contribution to Northern squash and sadly his death in 2010.
With reverse logic in mind eligibility comes with age. All entrants need to prove strict qualification compliance i.e. over fifty years of age and breathing. With such a mature group ‘humility’ is not a word recognised by the competitors, in particular when the seedlings were announced. (Views which ran over to the following week)
In the spirit of Geoff there are always little twists in the rules. This year was no exception with the number four seeds having to play one of their matches with a wooden racquet.
As always a fun night was had by all culminating with two new names entering the hall of fame.
Competition Winner – Gordie Robertson Wooden Spoon – Clive Lucas
In the absence of Geoff’s wife Mary (due to a previous commitment) this year’s winner was awarded the cup by her good friend Gill Cowie.
However Mary being upset at the fixture clash will present the trophy to Gordie again at our squash presentation evening on 18th May 2013. (The only concern is Gordies attendance, quoting shyness in public!)
