
Some of the best junior talent in the region descended on Northern recently to play in the annual Dunlop Northern Junior Open sponsored by Cussins Homes, Jesmond Health Partnership and JBA Training.
Nearly 60 entries and half of them girls played some top quality squash and Northern juniors acquitted themselves well.
In the Under 11 boys competition , Archer Robson ( Tynemouth ) finished 3rd and the final was an all Jesmond affair with Freddie Gilberg beating Marwan Dawood.
In the Under 11 girls event , Fatima Ali Saleem Finished 3rd and her Northern teammate Grace Watkins was runner up to Molly Black ( Yarm ) in the final.
In the Under 13 girls competition, Charlotte Robertson ( Northern ) was 3rd and Lucy Barnet from Jesmond was runner up to Olivia Black ( Yarm ). A good competition for the Black girls!
Oliver Tompkins beat his Northern teammate Lucas McNaughton for 3rd place in the Under 13 boys competition with two travellers competing in the final. Charlie Armstrong ( Carlisle ) beat Edward Jones ( Manchester ) in the final.
The Girls Under 15 event saw an all Northern final with Elizabeth Muldoon Smith beating her younger teammate Salma Barkouk. Sophia Jameson from Boldon was 3rd.
The best of Northern Under 15 boys talent did well in their event with Will Brocklehurst and Kiran Sarkar finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively but they couldn't stop highly ranked local James Southern ( Tynmouth ) from winning the top prize.
Tournament Director , Dave Brocklehurst and Tech wiz , Tom McKay are to be congratulated for putting on a fantastic event and we look forward to running again next season.
