It's that time in the Summer when thoughts turn to team squash next winter season (which starts mid-September and runs to after Easter).

For more information about what team squash involves, please follow this link https://secure.wazygoose.com/northern-squash-club/team-squash

Northern has again entered 6 teams (of 5) in the Men's League and 4 teams (of 4) in the Ladies League.

If you want to play team squash in the Men's and/or Ladies teams next season (and think you can commit to playing the majority of matches) please email me at dandjnorth@talktalk.net by 30th August.

Just a reminder that female members can be nominated for a team in both the Men's and Ladies Leagues. Please be aware match fees (to cover court costs and post match meals) may increase slightly from the £9 per player charged last year (due to increase food costs).

Please also note, to play team squash for Northern, you must be a member of Northern Squash Club (annual renewal date is 1st September) and a member of English Squash (ES), which is shortly changing to direct membership only (rather than being a member through a club). ES are introducing different membership options (which come with different benefits) and (to play team squash and enter ES sanctioned tournaments) Just Play (at £15 pa) or Play Plus (at £25 pa) is required. If you already have ES membership through Northern (ie because you played in the teams or junior tournaments last season) you will need to renew direct with ES on 1st December. If you are new to team squash, you will need to join direct to ES by early September.

Here is a link which gives more information about the new ES membership categories: https://www.englandsquash.com/new-membership/the-new-scheme

Even if you don’t intend to play team squash or enter ES sanctioned tournaments, it is worth considering joining England Squash, in view of the benefits this brings (eg personal accident cover; discounts), and to support grass roots squash. Please note, a small percentage of your annual fee to ES is rebated to Northumbria Squash, which relies on these rebates to support it’s activities (including local competitions (such as the County Closed) and several teams (junior and senior) for inter county competitions.

There will also be 2 Northern Junior teams in the Men's League next season - nominations for these will be sorted by the team managers in due course. Junior membership with England Squash (at £15 pa) gives eligibility to play team squash and enter ES sanctioned events.
