Minutes of the Boldon Cricket and Squash Executive Committee Meeting held on 5th August 2024

3 - MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

5 - FINANCE

5.1 Bank Accounts - Current Account has £22.5k. Savings Account has £40.2K (£10k has been transferred from the Current Account)

5.2 Outgoings - First instalment of £3.6k for re-pointing work; Payment of £2k for hygiene services; Electricity bill of £1.5k

5.3 Income - Wedding sales £13.3k; Squash court bookings £1.7k

5.4 J Kilner looking into changing the Electricity supplier/contract in an effort to reduce future bills. Gas contract is currently locked for a while so no change for the time being. J Kilner floated the idea of splitting meters between squash area and bar.

5.5 J Kilner stated that the recent wedding event had gone well due to the clear and agreed responsibilities between the club and event organisers.

6 - CRICKET

6.1 Nets - Installation is now complete and will be ready for first use on Thursday 8th August. Contractor has scraped back some of the materials under the trees at the top of the parking area. J Kilner stated that he was looking into erecting a fence around the new nets in order to protect them and providing a container to be situated next to the scoreboard to house the bowling machine.

6.2 Juniors - Doing well.

6.3 Girls cricket - Further grants are being sought.

7 - SQUASH

7.1 Memberships - No new members in July 2024. Current members now able to renew for 2024/25.

7.2 Court Bookings - £1.7k transferred into club account; Totals for 2024 - Memberships £849.30; Court bookings £10,818.75.

7.3 Summer League team has now played 8 matches and won 6. They are currently in one of the play-off positions.

7.4 Boldon Open - M Shipley explained that he and Kevin Forster had met Cai Younger on Sunday 4th August to discuss the feasibility of hosting one of his one-day tournaments. The outcome was that Boldon could facilitate an event and the date of 16th November was pencilled in.

7.5 Re-pointing - M Shipley stated that the repair work had started that morning and was expected to take 2 weeks to complete, depending on the weather.

7.6 Friendly with Westoe Squash Club - The proposed friendly on 14th September is still being sought, however Westoe are yet to confirm.

8 - BAR

8.1 New tills have been installed and are currently in use.

9 - AOB

9.1 A Forster asked whether the issue relating to responsibility for picking up emergency calls had been resolved. It hasn't.

ACTION POINT - C Ellison to contact Dunelm Security and establish whether they can offer a solution and to ask if they could fit an alarm on a container.

9.2 The matches played at Boldon last week involving a team from the UAE went well and there may be a return match in future.

9.3 K Forster stated that Seaburn Gas had fitted a new valve to the boiler and would pass the invoice to J Kilner when he got it.

9.4 K Forster stated that he had tried to contact Chip and Pin without success; he left a voicemail message.

9.5 Water leak - C Ellison stated that he would lift the floor in the old kitchen in week commencing 12th August 2024 in an attempt to source the leak which requires the boiler to be topped-up on a daily basis. L Potter said that she needed to clear that kitchen in preparation.

ACTION POINTS – L Potter clear old kitchen; C Ellison lift old kitchen floor and check for water leak.

9.6 Repairs and Improvements - J Kilner set out 3 priorities for future works;

  • Staircase and Facia leading to the cricket dressing rooms
  • Patio area to be established in front of bar and function room
  • Facelift to the bar areas

A Forster stated that the ladies toilet was also in need of refurbishment and asked for this work to be added to the priorities. Agreed.

9.7 J Kilner stated that he felt the unilateral decision to start work on the re-pointing of the brickwork around the club had violated committee etiquette. A pick-up had to be postponed. He ended by saying that the Squash section had lost an ally (in him).
