Minutes of the Boldon Squash Executive Committee Meeting held on 9th June 2025

1 - ATTENDANCE

  • Marc Shipley, Mandy Forster, Kevin Forster, Tracey Coats, Mick Barnes, Russell Hughes

3 - MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

  • Minutes of the Meeting 12th May agreed.

4 - MATTERS ARISING/ACTION POINTS

4.1 - Action Point Update

• 4.4 (11/2/25) Marc/Kevin – Ongoing. Kevin to discuss front door replacement with Dave Elsender.

• 4.4 (18/3/25) Marc - Ongoing. Saturday Keep Fit Leader to be contacted about parking.

4.2 - Dashboard

  • Marc reported that £1365 has been transferred to the Treasurer for court bookings and £47.50 in memberships.

  • Current membership 192, additional member expected to join shortly.

4.3 - Squash News

  • Primrose v Boldon Annual FA Cup Challenge - Primrose won again 8-7. Write-up of the day’s event is on Wazygoose.

  • Northern Open Gosforth - Held for the second time. Congratulations go out to 3 Boldon members who entered, and all won something in their squash level divisions.

  • Ashbrooke Open Sunderland - Being held soon and a number of Boldon members have entered.

  • Membership Fees 2025/2026 Season - The Committee discussed this matter and formally agreed to keep the membership fees at the same rate for yet another year. Wazygoose will open in early August for renewals at the discounted rate for continuing members until 31st August 20205. From 1st September 2025 the fee for renewal and new memberships for full members will revert to the higher rate of £75.

4.4 - Squash club maintenance/ improvement

  • Ladies Changing Room – Kevin has undertaken a temporary repair to the tiles in the shower area but reported that the wood below the tiling is rotten. ACTION Kevin - to approach Colin Dumble to carry out proper repair.

  • Men’s Showers – light has gone out, Kevin has fitted replacement.

  • Members Feedback - None.

  • Cleaning - Contract with South Tyneside Council Cleaning Services terminated. Independent cleaner hired and marked improvement already noticed.

4.5 - Club Executive Committee Feedback (meeting 9th June)

  • Current account £5k Deposit account £14,800

  • Ordered 6 more picnic benches for the patio area.

  • Outgoings: £750 deposit paid for new blinds in the function room.

  • Bar takings steady in May.

  • Problem with Ladies toilets to be rectified.

  • Cricket - Team 1 unbeaten to date. Team 2 performing satisfactorily. Junior teams also performing satisfactorily.

  • Bar & Social – no new members.

  • Extra bins to be put in patio area.

5 - AOB

  • Russell asked about the amount of teams for the 2025/2026 season. ACTION Marc – will contact current team players in July to confirm willingness/availability to play. ACTION Marc – notice to be put on rolling TV screen asking for nominations for team squash.

  • Tracey raised the issue of chewing gum on the new patio area. ACTION Marc – to be raised at the next Executive Meeting.

  • Mick commented on how impressed he is with the Wednesday evening Pool Team behaviour and the support they receive in the Bar.

  • Mandy reported that a Sunday evening Ladies Only Squash ‘round robin friendly matches’ will take place on Sunday 15th June from 6.15-7pm (and possibly every other Sunday) in order to introduce new and existing ladies members to each other.
