On Saturday, September 21st, we proudly hosted our 50th-anniversary celebration—a milestone event that brought together past and present members, along with guests from other clubs, for a day of competition, camaraderie, and festivities.
The day kicked off with a blitz-style competition held in three sessions. The winner of each session advanced to the final, where the champions of the Redcar 50 Cup were crowned. A huge congratulations to Darren Nalton, Luke Egglestone, Andy Ralston, and Fran Moore, who emerged victorious as the first-ever recipients to have their names engraved on the trophy. We look forward to making this an annual tradition and welcome participation from more local clubs in the future. A huge thank you to members of Guisborough, Norton & Sedgefield who made the trip down to Redcar to get involved.
Following the competition, we quickly transformed the space for the evening's highlight: an exhibition match featuring Joel Makin and Greg Lobban. Both players were in great spirits, delivering a spectacular display of squash paired with light-hearted humour that truly entertained the crowd. After the match, a lively Q&A session allowed the audience to engage with Joel and Greg, posing insightful and challenging questions, all of which they answered with brilliance and wit. We closed the night with a performance by Striking Back, giving our members, both past and present, a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and enjoy the celebration to the fullest.
The raffle prize winners were: 4th Place – Gary Anderson & John Thornhill, 3rd Place – Richard Simms, 2nd Place – Ann Gollogly, 1st Place – Barry Corbyn
A huge thank you to everyone who made the day/evening happen. Here’s to another 50 years of Redcar Squash & Racketball Club.
