NORTHERN starlets Michael Mattimore, Erin Vitty and Katie Merlane all came away as champions from the 2013 Northumbria Junior County Closed.
Erin kept her head under pressure to clinch the Girls U13 title ahead of Northumberland Club's Lowri Waugh . . .
While Michael found top form to add the Under 15 title to his growing trophy collection, beating Jesmond's Angus Forster to the winner's trophy.
Girls U11 winner Katie showed a great range of shots for such a young player to see off Beth Dean of Northumberland club in her final.
Northern's Cai Younger - having seen off County No 1 Jamie Todd in the semis - had to surrender his U19 title to Alnwick's Chris Wiggins, losing a titanic final 3-2, while Andrew Shipley played out of his skin in reaching the showpiece game in the boys U13 final. He beat Lewis Follin 3-2 in a semi-final thriller before eventually losing out to Max Forster.
The ever-improving Sam Broughton also picked up silverware, finishing second to Tynemouth's Jamie Todd at U17 level, while well done to these other Northern youngsters who all finished in the top four:
- Dan North and Tom Wight (3rd and 4th respectively at U17)
- sisters Josie and Katie Barker (3rd at Girls U15 and 4th at Girls U11 respectively)
- Tegan Younger (two 3rd place finishes at Girls U15 and U17)
