The 2014 Club Championships got under way on Sunday 24 April with the start of the Men's 'A' and 'B' Events.
There were no upsets in the 'A' Event and most matches were won 3/0. One notable exception was:
Keith Linsley pushed Gary Candlish (Seeded 3/4) all the way to the 5th. I suspect that Gary was a little bit jaded from his efforts in the County Cup Competition at the weekend (which by the way Northern won) but it was nevertheless a really good performance from Keith to push a seasoned campaigner all the way to the 5th.
In the 'B' Event there were two upsets:
Joel Birch-Machin (Seeded 5/8) was beaten 3/0 by Liam Kahn - another rising star from Mr Vitty's stable !
and
Ian Campbell (Seeded 5/8) was beaten 3/0 by Tom Cornell. They met each other in last years' competition with Ian the victor 3/1. This result shows the level of improvement by Tom and, I have to say, the commitment he has made to a sport he clearly enjoys. Keep it up Tom.
The next Round takes place on Sunday 11 May and includes the start of the Ladies Event.
Good Luck everyone and very many thanks for supporting the clubs Premier Event.
