NORTHERN Men's 1 completed a rousing League and Cup Double at the County Presentation night in Jesmond.
Skipper Liam Gutcher's boys were already assured of picking up top team prize on the night in the form of the Premier League trophy - having finished 20 points ahead of last year's winners Northumberland Club.
But Northern, the reigning League Cup holders, were not about to give up that prize without a fight either . . .
Gutch & Co saw off a strong Northumbria Blues team on the Friday night, with Matt Hardy (3-0), Cai Younger (3-0) and Gary Candlish (3-2) all winning to secure a tight 3-2 triumph over one of the strongest teams in the league.
With No 2 string Hardy missing for the big match against Tynemouth on finals day, this was always going to go right to the wire . . .
And so it proved, with man-of-the-match Candlish (another 3-2 - he likes to get his money's worth), Gutcher (3-0) and crowd-pleaser Andy Scott (ditto) grabbing the victories needed for the boys to lift their second piece of silverware of a sensational, unbeaten season.
Well done to all the players who helped put Northern emphatically top of the country tree in 2013/14 - Liam Gutcher, Matt Hardy, Andy Scott, Gary Candlish, Craig Dowie, Cai Younger and Alex Robertson.
