Newcastle Northern junior player of the month – September 2015
Northern squash club have decided to initiate a junior squash player of the month and for September 2015 it is Matthew Thompson. Matthew has been playing at Northern for 5 years after he and his twin brother were attracted back to the club following one of the clubs annual school outreach programmes.
Matthew is dedicated to his sport and works really hard to improve his game. He is one of 12 juniors who get up at 6pm , three mornings a week , to train at Northern , before he goes to school …. now if that's not dedication then I don't know what is?
His parents Pete and Denise are a massive support by transporting him and his brother all over the country to play in tournaments, where they are a credit to the county both on and off court.
All Matthew's hard work was rewarded in September when he won his first county championship at under 13. He came from two match balls down in the fifth to beat the number one seed Dan Neill of Jesmond.
