The second stage of the inter county junior competition was held recently and Northumbria had representation in all eight categories with lots of Northern Squash club juniors involved.

The Under 15 girls squad included Megan Evans , Erin Vitty , Beth Tudor , Aanya Hamilton , Lucy Anderson and Emma Delgaty from Northern . They went to Yorkshire and although losing to the hosts 4 – 1 , they beat Buckinghamshire 4 – 1 and then had a very tense match against Worestershire , which they won 3 – 2 to qualify for the national finals.

The Under 19 girls also qualified for the national finals with a four girls team that included Northern members Tegan Younger and Ellie Watling. The team finished second to Cambridshire with close wins against Yorkshire and Leicestershire.

The Under 13 team just missed out on the national finals with three girls from Northern in the four girl team .. Katie Barker , Anna Moore and Naomi Appleby helped the team to finish third behind Yorkshire and Lancashire. The match against Lancashire for second place qualification rested on Katie Barker , who just lost out 11-9 in the fifth!

The Under 17 team were also in action and they had Northern’s Josie Barker playing number 1. Unfortunately they couldn’t match the achievements of the other teams and finished fourth in their group.

In the boys events , Northumbria under 13s qualified for the finals with two Northern players involved with the team .. Sion Gittins and Milan Stach.

All the other boys teams competed well but failed to progress and all the following Northern players were involved .. Alex Robertson , Sam Broughton , Tom Wight , Michael Mattimore , Tom Cornell , Andrew Shipley and Thomas Moore.

The successful teams will be playing the inter county finals at Nottingham in January and we wish them all good luck.
