There is a saying that ‘ Old age and cunning will triumph over youth and enthusiasm’ imagine then fifteen over fifty year old competitive squash players, competing once again for the Geoff Younger trophy!!
The competition is building a reputation for misinformation as to the true fitness of competitors as they enter the courts. Remember previous winners, Gus (The Pirate) Thompson and Vince (the fox in the box) O'Sullivan. One only has to be present to witness the mind games amongst participants, extra bandages, the smell of ralgex and the swapping of physiotherapist telephone numbers.
Therefore in keeping with tradition step forward this year’s winner Clive (Zimmer) Lucas. Fresh form recent hip surgery Clive gracefully accepted his position in the nights rankings, limped onto court and proceeded to take everybody apart with skill, finesse and not a little agility!! Maintaining the very high standards of guile and cunning this competition is becoming famous for. In addition a darker side of Andy Smith was observed on court, as he proceeded to show his opponents no mercy to run out a worthy winner of the Titans Trophy.
As always Mary Younger was in attendance to present the trophies. Congratulations to all participants for another enjoyable squash event. Who knows what subterfuge next year’s competition will bring?
