The Official Opening of the Refurbished Northern Squash Club
The Opening Ceremony will be on Saturday 3rd December 2011. It will comprise of a fun squash event which will include junior and senior players followed by the Presentation of a plaque and then an exhibition match between Northumbria County Champion Dave Barnett and Northern Squash Club Champion Liam Gutcher. There will then be drinks and a light buffet in the squash spectator area.
The tickets are £3 per person including the buffet. Tickets can be obtained from Derek Collins, Richard Vitty or Clive Lucas. Tickets will be available from Monday 21st November 2011.
Junior Squash
One of our Juniors Michael Mattimore recently played in silver grade junior event at Abbeydale Squash Club in Sheffield. There are only 6 silver grade tournaments in the year and only the top 32 players from each age group are invited to play. Michael played in the under 13 age group. He beat the no. 5 seed 3-0 in the quarter finals, the number 10 seed in the semis and beat the number 8 seed 3-0 in the final. Michael will now be ranked in the top ten in the under 13s in the country. A fantastic achievement and a credit to the coaching and set up of the Junior section headed by Richard Vitty.
The Prince Newcastle Northern Junior Open will be held on the weekend of Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February 2012. There will be 120 entries across 8 different age groups ( boys / girls under 11, 13, 15 & 17 ) . This competition gives our juniors the chance to challenge themselves against some of the best players in the country.
It would be great to have some of the adult members to come down and support the event - the finals are held between 3pm and 7pm on the Sunday.
