NORTHERN JUNIORS SUCCESS AT YARM TOURNAMENT

Last weekend 21 of our junior headed down the A19 to Yarm in Cleveland to take part in their junior open tournament. In the U13 girls Zoe Shipsey continued her run of recent good form by winning her second event of the season. Grace Moore was third and Shae Paterson finished 5th in her first tournament outside of Newcastle. It was nip and tuck between Ben Tudor and Joe Elliott to see who would finish highest from our club in the boys U11 , with Ben just sneaking it finishing 6th to Joe’s 7th and Sam Ponente was 13th in his first sanctioned tournament. Milan Stach had a fine win over his fellow county player Sam Sweeney to finish 3rd in the Boys U13 , Will Johnson also competed and finished 11th. In the girls event Katie Barker beat Jessica Wetherspoon from Sedgefield in the final , Rebecca Grogan and Evie Paterson also competed. Under 15 Boys and Girls events proved to be very successful for Northern players. In the boys events, our very own Thompson twins finished 1st and 3rd , with Matthew beating higher ranked Nathan Dobson from Tynemouth in the final to outdo his brother John.Ewan Strathdee finished 6th . Harriet Wight stormed to yet another tournament win in the girls U15 event , beating fellow Northern player Beth Tudor in the final. Just for good measure Lucy Anderson , Katie Merlane and Anna Moore finished 3rd , 5th and 7th. Andrew Shipley is now ranked in the top 10 in the country and he duly obliged with another tournament win , beating fellow Gosforth Academy team mate Harry Little in the final of the boys U17 event. Thomas Moore was 5th. Emma Delgaty and Aanya Hamilton competed in the Girls U19 event and finished 6th and 7th against some very strong opposition. All in all another great tournament for Northern juniors with four event winners and some other notable performances too.
