The Geoff Younger (GY) competition 2017 provided two new names to the roll of honour for the GY and the Titans trophy. Step forward Roger Tames our own Northern Volleys editor and much travelled sports commentator. Roger arrived full of pent up frustration having had to commentate on the Sunderland v Burnley football match. That frustration was taken out on his opponents as he built an unassailable points total leading to ultimate victory.
The only difficulty with such an experienced broadcaster, being asked about his victory, was his ability to repeat clichéd comments.
Q – Roger “to what do you attribute your success today?”
A - “Well Clive, it was a game of four half’s, I had to give 110%, remember this competition is a marathon not a sprint and form goes out of the window, as for some of the let calls, I’ve seen them given and at the end there was some tired legs out there”
Congratulations Roger.
As for the Titans’ Trophy the youngest competitor showed some class and experience as he accumulated early points. A first successful entrance to a mature competition, step forward Mike Paul. Mike managed to see off the challenge of two previous winners Jacques Dinsley and Andy Smith. As always Mary Younger was in attendance to present the trophy's to the winners
Look out for an even more competitive approach at next year’s competition, as younger members get older and qualify for entry.
In reality all competitors were winners on a night when we remember Geoff.
