THE NORTHERN talent factory is already looking to the future - by breeding the next generation of squash super coaches, as well as players.
With the aim of creating a never-ending production line, coach Richard Vitty is already helping develop the coaching skills of the young starlets in his charge.
Under a joint scheme with Gosforth Academy, two sixth-form students get the chance to become fully qualified squash coaches
Anna Watling and Sophie Noble are the first two Acadeny pupils to cut their coaching teeth under this scheme, having just passed their level one coaching award - and both now have their eyes set on Level 2 in September, when two boys will be chosen to follow in their footsteps.
"It is great fun but very challenging too," said Sophie. "I've learned such a lot about how to help beginners and it's also given me a real enthusiasm for getting back on court and playing the game myself."
