Recently we had our second year 5 school festival of the season at Northern. This time it was the turn of Gosforth East Middle School ( GEMS ) and coaches Richard Vitty and Thomas Moore went into the school to take four weeks of PE classes to introduce eye / hand co ordination to the year 5 children. 130 children took part and the best four boys and four girls from each class were chosen to come back to Northern to learn how to play squash and play each other in an inter class tournament. The competition between the 32 children was very competitive and turned out to be very close. 5EA and 5CF finished 3rd and 4th and there was only one point between runners up 5ER and winners 5SR. These school festivals tend to be a bit of a breeding ground for our junior squads, so expect to see some of these kids on court soon.
