• Minutes of the Meeting 19th September 2023 agreed.
4 - MATTERS ARISING/ACTION POINTS
4.1 - Action Point Update:
• 4.5 Marc - confirmed that; at the Executive Committee’s request; he has obtained quotes for the hire of various skip sizes. To be confirmed at the next Executive Meeting, along with the date of the Club tidy-up.
4.2 - Winter Teams 2023/2024
• Marc reported it has been a slow start with more losses than wins.
o New member Ben Caffrey has joined Team 1 as no. 6 reserve.
4.3 - Dashboard
• Marc reported that £1297 has been transferred to the Treasurer for court bookings and £1162 for memberships.
o Membership 151.
o Squash account remains healthy.
4.4 - Squash club maintenance/improvement
• Kevin reported work is to resume on the Ladies Changing room on 17th October. Once tidied he will arrange for the new carpet fitting and then the seat is to be put back in, and the toilet door painted.
• The Men’s Changing room lino has been glued back in place by the firm who installed it, at no additional cost.
• Marc advised the Committee he had seen a video of a squash court with glass panels on all walls, the main benefit being little maintenance, and has contacted the company for more details including cost.
o ACTION Marc – to report back at next meeting.
• Cleaning is currently satisfactory – however Marc is to check with the Treasurer that a rebate has been received from ST Council for the hours missed by the cleaner.
4.5 - Squash AGM Feedback
• Mandy confirmed Mark Flynn is willing to continue as a Squash Committee member although other commitments may prevent him from attending every meeting.
4.6 - Club Handicap Competition
• Auction 12pm Sunday 19th November - Joe Priestley will once again act as Auctioneer
• Neil Woodward will once again organise the wine.
• Mandy will organise the cheese.
• Bar opening – Mandy will ask Sam to open at 11.30am in order to set everything up.
• Handicaps – ACTION Marc and Kevin to use last year as a ‘template’ for this year, to be done after the closing date on Tuesday 14th November.
• Finals Night 9th December
o Plate final 5.30pm
o Cup final 6.30pm
o Followed by party night in Function Room – The Racket will begin at 8pm
o Buffet provided
o Raffle (donation of prizes most welcome – pass to Mandy)
o Tickets £5 each
4.7 - Club Executive Committee Feedback
• Meeting scheduled for Monday 23rd October.
5 - AOB
• Kevin reported that the walls on Court 4 are damp, he has used a moisture meter and it is mainly showing nearer the floor.
o Outside brickwork needs re-pointing; possibly need gulley run-off for the water.
o ACTION Tracey – has contacted builder recommended to her by South Tyneside Builders and is awaiting call back.
• Kevin advised the Committee of the scheduled Team Challenges (each team to be handicapped):
o Monday 11th December 1st v 2nd Team;
o Wednesday 13th December 3rd v 4th Team;
o Friday 15th December Mon v Wed winning teams.
o ACTION Marc – to advertise via Wazygoose and internal TV adverts.
• Kevin advised the Committee that the annual 3 Racket Challenge (squash; squash57; badminton) is to be held on Saturday 30th December at 1pm.
o ACTION Marc - to advertise via Wazygoose and internal TV adverts.
• Kevin advised the Committee that he had received an email from England Squash about Squash Levels within individual clubs for ES registered players (ranking/points system)
o The Committee discussed this but felt unsure of the benefits of such a system particularly as we have internal league rankings within the club.
o ACTION Marc and Kevin to investigate further and report back at the next meeting.
